This year we have decided to scour out our network twice, mainly due to the iron and Manganese deposits that occur in our pipe network.
As before the scouring process will be assisted with compressed air, and as a result considerable disruption at the time of scouring will occur, We advise members to switch off their connections when scouring is taking place to avoid coloured water or air entering your system. Notification of when scouring is happening in your area will be sent by text message prior to scouring beginning. Any member that is not already part of our text alert system that wish to get notifications by text should text their name and number and their message requesting inclusion to 0872606118/0873424354 or send their details by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. Scouring begins Monday 30th of May, it will continue for approx 3 weeks, areas affected first will be Corcaghan, Threemilehouse, Aghabog, Newbliss, Greenans Cross, Smithboro. Updates will also be available here on the website.
NB. In cases where water quality is effected by scouring, we advise to allow an outside tap to run until water runs clear
What is Pipe Scouring ?
Pipe / Air Scouring of water mains is an extremely effective 'non-aggressive' way of cleaning and removing particulate matter from the water mains that bring safe water home to us. From 75mm diameter to 300mm diameter, with typical cleaning lengths ranging from 100 to 1000 metres.
Air scouring works by using a high pressure volume of water at high velocity focused on individual parts and sections of the water main. The forced watrerv carries the dirt at HIGH PRESSURE which is released back into the ground at "Scour Valves" carrying sediments and build up back to nature
