Schools - Education on local water safety

The Stranooden Group Water Scheme (SGWS) actively educates local schoolchildren on the importance of maintaining clean and safe raw water sources. Their educational initiatives include delivering presentations that highlight the dangers of pollutants, such as MCPA, a herbicide where even a small capful can contaminate water sources for over 30 kilometers. By engaging students with informative sessions, SGWS emphasizes the role of individual actions in water preservation. These efforts aim to instill a sense of responsibility and awareness in the younger generation, ensuring the protection of water quality for the community's future.

Talks - Farm Walks

We focus on water source protection by providing hands-on education on safeguarding water quality. These guided walks bring farmers, students, and community members to agricultural sites near water sources, demonstrating best practices for preventing contamination. A verity of experts discuss responsible fertilizer and pesticide use, proper slurry management, and the importance of buffer zones to reduce runoff.

Participants learn about minimizing soil erosion and protecting biodiversity in riparian areas. These walks encourage sustainable farming methods that balance productivity with environmental protection. By witnessing real-world examples of effective water conservation, attendees gain practical knowledge to implement in their own communities. Our farm walks promote awareness, responsibility, and long-term solutions for keeping rivers, lakes, and groundwater safe and unpolluted.

Sinage and Awareness

In 2022 we started erecting some sinage in various places around our catchment area. People who live in our catchment area afre not necissarily members of our scheme or users of our waters. We have found that "KNOWELEDGE" is the greatest asset, as when you know you are effecting the drinking waters of your community, care is naturally taken. We would love
